SOAS will be hosting Free Representation Unit Thursday, February 28th at 19.00.
Since 1972, FRU has provided representation in social security and employment tribunals to those ineligible for legal aid. Their work is volunteer-based, consisting mostly of law students and legal professionals in the early stages of their career. To Volunteer with FRU you must be at minimum in your final year of a qualifying law degree or qualified. We have asked that FRU discuss how first and second years can prepare to join FRU.
As a volunteer, you will take on a case to prepare and present in the tribunal. FRU gives students the opportunity to gain first-hand legal and advocacy experience, plus it looks great on your CV.
To learn more, please join us for the event on the 28th. We have limited space so make sure to register for a ticket here! We will be joined by FRU CEO David Abbott and Doughty Street Chambers Barrister Gemma Daly, a former FRU volunteer.
