Knowing Our Rights Project (https://www.knowing-our-rights.com/about/) invites mooters to participate in our inaugural human rights based moot. The following is a descriptive explanation of our exciting event:
The Knowing Our Rights (KOR) research project, in collaboration with Brunel Law School (BLS) and sponsored by The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, is pleased to announce the inauguration of an inter-university human rights mooting competition. Inspired by KOR’s goal of increasing understanding of the European Convention on Human Rights in the UK by engaging with the public, particularly the younger generation, this human rights moot will challenge participating students to engage with topical and controversial human rights issues within a legalframework. The Brunel-Inner Temple Inter-University Human Rights Moot is also a great opportunity for those law students keen to refine their advocacy skills before panels of experienced legalpractitioners and academics.
The qualifying round will be a full day of mooting and workshops hosted at Brunel University’s Moot Court, on Saturday 28 April 2018.
The semi-finals and finals will be hosted at the Inner Temple on the evening of 4 May 2018. It will be judged by eminent members of the Inn, KOR experts and academic scholars. A reception and award ceremony will follow. There will equally be the opportunity to participate in a written submissions’ contest, the winners of which will be announced that evening.
We have limited spaces for teams wishing to participate, so those interested should contact Ms Gabrielle Laurin (email@example.com) with the names of their teams’ competitors by 28 February 2018.
The rules and moot problem will be sent closer to the date to those competing. There is a participation fee of £15 per participant: KOR is a research project with a deep passion for human rights related issues. As a consequence, the amount raised through the participation fee will be donated to a legal charity, which will be voted on the day of the qualifying round.
We look forward to seeing you all soon!
